How the Legacy Mesh Connects Celo to USDT0

Celo keeps its existing native USDT (ERC-20), with no new contract, no migration, and no wrapped tokens. Native USDT on Celo connects to the USDT0 Network through the Legacy Mesh, a non-custodial liquidity layer routed through the Arbitrum hub. You can bridge USDT between Celo and any USDT0-enabled chain in one action. Every transfer has 1:1 backing by real, redeemable assets on both sides.

FAQ

USDT on Celo stays native USDT (ERC-20) and connects to the USDT0 Network through the Legacy Mesh. You keep holding native USDT on Celo. When you transfer, the Legacy Mesh routes your funds through the Arbitrum hub and delivers native USDT0 on the destination chain. There are no wrapped tokens or synthetic representations, and every transfer is backed 1:1 by real, redeemable assets on both sides.

Transfers run on the Legacy Mesh, a non-custodial hub-and-spoke design routed through the Arbitrum hub. The USDT0 leg is secured by LayerZero and the USDT0 Attestation System, which verifies every transfer through independent attestation before it finalizes. Each message needs sign-off from the Core Attestation Set, a 3-of-3 signer group of USDT0, LayerZero, and Canary. No single party can approve a transfer. Every transfer is backed by real assets through liquidity pools or direct mint and burn, with no wrapped tokens and no external bridges.

Bridging USDT to or from Celo costs 0.03% (3 bps) per transfer, paid in USDT, plus network gas on the source and destination chains. The fee comes from the Legacy Mesh, which routes these transfers. Tether Gold (XAUT0) transfers don’t touch the Legacy Mesh: they are native omnichain transfers with no protocol fee.

The Celo USDT contract address is 0x48065fbBE25f71C9282ddf5e1cD6D6A887483D5e (ERC-20). This is the chain's native USDT token contract. Double-check the full address before sending funds.

On Celo, the USDT0 transfer widget supports MetaMask, Rabby, and other EVM browser wallets, or any wallet connected through WalletConnect. USDT (ERC-20) is Celo's native USDT, so most Celo wallets list it by default.

Yes: you can bridge Tether Gold to Celo as XAUT0, alongside USDT. XAUT0 is a native omnichain deployment with a burn-and-mint model and 1:1 backing, independent of the Legacy Mesh. Select XAUT in the bridge to move it to or from Celo.

XAUT0 on Celo is the representation of Tether Gold (XAUT) within the USDT0 Network. Every XAUT0 token corresponds to Tether Gold, where 1 token = 1 troy ounce of physical gold. Holding XAUT0 on Celo is equivalent to holding Tether Gold within the USDT0 system.
